Matthieu Chabanas is Associate Professor in Computer Science at the Grenoble Institute of Technology in France. He received a PhD in Biomedical Engineering in 2002 from the University of Grenoble for his works on modeling the face soft tissue for computer-aided maxillofacial surgery. After a few years in the Speech Production department of GIPSA-lab, he moved (back) to the Computer Aided Medical Intervention team of the TIMC-IMAG lab.
His research topics are medical simulation and biomechanical modeling, their evaluation with clinical data and images, and their actual use in computer-aided applications. This includes various competences from image processing (segmentation and registration, ultrasound imaging) to mesh registration and FEM simulation. His main applications concerns neurosurgery, orthopaedics, thoracic surgery and maxillofacial surgery.
